Sure this has been asked before, but which size bar/chain do you forestry guys end up using the most in your daily work 13",15" etc,and what size power unit.

Weight is effort, so I am sure you use the smallest/lightest you can, especially if your are working in ExtremelySteep woodland. Not to bothered whether you say you use Stihl or Husky. Thanks for any advice .

I run 13" on 50cc, 15" on 60cc, and 20" on 70cc

Full Chisel chain and 8 pin rims on the first two.

I prefer power over weight.

Showing my ignorance , what does "8 pin rims on the first two mean" :confused1: Thanks for your reply

A larger sprocket, with an extra driver. Standard sprockets have 7 slots. You gain chain speed at the cost of torque. Not advise able if you're running max bar length, but on a small bar it works well if you know how to cut. Many less experienced saw users tend to force the saw on the felling spikes, which IME causes a higher geared saw to bog down, voiding any extra chain speed you've gained.

Sorry you asked?

Most? 50cc, usually 346xp, with a 16" bar, no way around that.

Sprocket size varies between .325x7 and .325x8 - chain is usually 21LP/LPX.

I am running a 441 with an 18" bar - medium size hardwoods. I cut a lot of trees on steep ground & find that due to the extra power, you sometimes have to avoid cutting with a pushing chain
