Ragwort

[Will Heal]

Hi I have been asked by a lady to get rid of the ragwort from a field she wants to put ponies in next week. I told her there would not be enough time to spray it plus animals eat it when it is dead right?

I have told her I will have to pull it. I've pulled lots in the past but only when it's in flower is it fine to pull it now or will it be to soft. What do you think?

 

Plus where can I dispose of it and for how much near Hungerford or Marlborough?

Get a ragfork, will lift it easily so don't have to worry about whether it's too soft or not

Rag fork then burn it .

Almost all equestrian stores sell them . Best to get it out before it flowers . Spraying and killing the plant will make it lose it's bitterness and make it more palatable and toxic to horses .

Wear gloves too obviously, the sap can cause blistering in sunlight, similar to hogweed!

Is ragwort capable of making humans photosensitive without ingesting it? I've pulled tonnes of it, literally, never had an issue.

Pulling ragwort is fools work! It'll likely grow back in the same spot from either broken off roots or old seeds in the now freshly exposed soil.
