Is sewage sludge/cake used to make horticultural compost?

Recommended Posts

Hi, just bought some "organic multi-purpose compost" that freakin stinks of sewage; then I remembered hearing something about sewage sludge being used for all manner of things; agricultural fertiliser etc.

Anyone know anything about this? Not that enamoured with the thought of growing veg in such!

Thanks.

One of my clients bought me 6 bags of "organic top soil" from a local garden centre, purple and green bag to act as a bed for some reseeding where a tree was removed, cut it open and thought she had bought manure instead. Very wiffy took about 3 weeks to calm down, grass liiks good though!

Deffo, found a used "jonny" (excuse the spelling, not that it matters here though) in one sack we bought. So long as its been heat treated for long enough it should be fine, just think of those spuds... (not the ones that used the jonny obviously)

Oh my goodness. Glad for some clarification on this; google seemed lacking in any definitive answers i.e legal status of this issue.

I was fairly disgusted to learn that itv was used in agricultural applications when i found out- i like to think that only as a 3rd party fertiliser- ie goes through the cows first!- at least thats what i tell myself when i'm tucking into a carrot:laugh1:

Revolting buisness, but i guess something has to be done with it. After all mains water supply is basically refined toilet water isn't it???
