Great time to travel as most oiks (french, german, brits) with school kids have buggered off and weather can still be very good.

Use LD lines / Transmanche / or whatever they are now called regularly. Good basic and simple service, Late night sailings are cheap.

Stu are you allowed to stay in the 'Airs' overnight with a caravan, or is that a bad idea/total non-non?

Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk

Personally I would not from a security point of view. A lot of 'aires' are just stops with toliet facilities, and fairly barren at night. Then again, if you're into spanish truck drivers................

Also, I think that there are restrictions on caravans which don't necessarily apply to camping cars................hopefully there is some expert out there on the matter.

evening all, been caravanning for 20 odd years but never been across to France, thinking of going about end of august beginning September, not sure where to sail from or where to even go, so do any of you go ?? looking for some pointers and advice, preferably staying near the coast, cheers all SFA

My advice about getting a caravan across the channel would be to test it's usefulness as a ships anchor.

When you realise that it is not effective, cut it loose and enjoy the rest of your holiday in a fine hotel.

Enjoyment will also be found from knowing that you are no longer despised by all other road users.

Safe trip.

Can I make a left field suggestion to perhaps explore Germany? I've no idea why so few Brits go there, but it's a beautiful country (particularly the south) with a good climate (particularly the south), great food, great beer, great road network and very friendly (and usually English speaking) locals.
