Evening all. Keep breaking the lights on the back of Ifor LM105. I can get regular replacements easy enough but anyone know of any tough or guarded lights that don't break at the first sniff of a knock?

I changed my lights to LEDs they work very well even underwater i soldered the joints in the cable. haven't needed to touch them for 18 months.

Another vote for LED lights. You do have to wire in a resistor or there isn't enough draw on the light circuit to make the trailer lights show up as working in the cab.

I think these were the ones i got.

Thing is it's the housing get bust not had many bulb issues or are the housings on the ones mentioned a bit more substantial than average?

The lights are thin so I wrapped them in angle iron with heavy weld mesh on front the lights have more than one led bulb,I was replacing lenses regularly but none since fitting the LEDs

LED don't need changing so you can weld up some substantial surrounds and weld mesh covers that bolt onto the trailer chassis.

had 40 years in heavy goods parts so know a bit but have been out of teh industry for some years now.

Luma were the only company in my day to make an unbreakable lens, you could drive a 6 inch nail through one and not split the lens. However they never really caught on as they were to costly to get OE fitment work. They now seem to have dropped truck lamps.

Fitting LED lamps are all very well but they are far more expensive to replace if damaged. Long on road life is what they are designed for. While you can fix cages made by Multipart Universal etc round them if the cages are hit hard they will collapse and crush the lamp.

So it depends on what sort of damage you are getting, I have 2 IFW trailers, they are out 5 nights a week and have only lost an odd bulb and a couple of reflectors in 5 years. But if a driver reversed into something solid then things break.
