A contract climber we had in a few weeks a go took down a couple of overhead phone lines, he had these repair kits on his wagon and I thought they were brilliant. The breaks were in the middle of the wire so we used the cherry picker, there was this piece of string with a loop on each end that brought both ends of the cable back together and held it there which made the wire joining stress free, it had these twist on joiners and when finished the plastic box with gel in it clamped over the top which gripped the outer sheath of the cable. Job done and properly in less time than it took to type this.

joining the wires back together we use car electrical crimps they are blure or red, bare the wire crimp to geather with the crimping tool cover with amalgamating tape job done

The proper BT/openreach ones, "jellies", were single entry for each wire and then the pliers drove the connector through the insulation and made the joint. They are filled with silicone grease to weatherproof them. Strain was kept off the joint with a wrap guy lashing wound around the wire and attached to the house. I still have a few left from the box I was handed in 87.

That's brilliant bob, just ordered a few of these kits as it's exactly what a BT bloke used last time we had a storm damaged branch snap a line.

Going to put 1 in the truck and cherrypicker just incase as even with the best care in the world accidents happen and if a wire has rubbed it's very weak.

Cheers.

Thanks for that link, just ordered three kits, not broken a bt line recently so it must be about time. Got one job soon and the guy said just drop it through the cable it will make your life easier and I'm sick of pip phone calls. Can't tell if he was serious?
