The best buy may be the one that is best supported. If you have a great choice of local dealers then find the one that sells what you fancy. But if you have a favourite dealer who you trust, then buy what he suggests.

I don't question that Echo is very good. Its probably every bit as good as Tanaka and if I were forced into changing brand I would give it serious consideration along with Kawasaki.

I work on hundreds of machines of all makes including, but I do prefer the Tanaka for its reliability, simplicity and cost effective parts.

But to be honest, even though I sell lot of Tanaka machines, my spares turnover is minimal and warranty claims are virtually non existant.

When comparison of machines is made it is very important to compare like with like, both on the model and size of the machine and also the use it gets.

Its very easy to praise a 30 year old heavy duty machine that is seldom used and condemn a 3 year lighter machine that has been thrashed every day.

Is it still possible get parts for Tanaka Hitachi machines.  Google says Hitachi purchased Tanaka, and then ceased production few years later.

My mates Hitachi 47EJ brush cutter has either a faulty clutch or broken shaft or gearbox, have to get the spanners out.

Yup....I can get tanaka parts no problem. Hitachi use the same part numbers.

v good, he has offered to sell it to me in favour of a battery machine, domestic use is all he has to do,

are they a good machine, its approaching 15years old, he bought it SH 4 years ago, but its a lot easier to start than either the Stihl MS231 chainsaw or FS55 strimmer I have

I want it for trimming along electric fence, mix of v thick heavy grass and brambles
