Hi all,

I'll be taking this cherry down soon and the customer wants everything firewood size logged to use himself and to sell the main trunk for milling possibly. Until it's down obviously I won't know if it's sound inside. It will be approx 22/24" diameter at the base and about 4 1/2 ft long, located mid Essex. Any idea on value I can tell them please and anyone local interested?

IMO, very little if anything. I would certainly not want to be taking its value into account when quoting. It it only worth to me the hassle of taking it away.

I remember RobD posting that a couple years back. Always makes me laugh :) very true to say the least though :)

I get asked this a lot.... 'What's it worth?' (Especially with the older generations for some reason).

Unfortunately for them it's worth pretty much sod all. I agree with the comments above, I wouldn't alter the quote to account for the wood being worth something....

for such a wide piece regardless of how short it is i would be happy to pay up to£75 but no more.

if it's not sound then don't just ring it up as i might be interested in some for a drum shell i must turn and cherry would be a good wood to do it in.

just keep it as long as possible.
