Best grinder, see picture.

As for price, just make something up and hope for the best if it's just grinding but if it's part of a total tree job price go just about cost as a sweetener to get whole job.

If someone doesn't have a stump ground out they will have to leave it or dig it out.

I've found that people will pay a big whack for stump grinding, and not all tree guys have one. I can count the number of times I've NOT got a grindy job on the fingers of one finger.

Charge what you like - just beware of obstacles and underground stuff - one mistake there can take the profit from a lot of jobs.

All depends on the machine.

But in answer to your question, by the job.

Client "how much to grind these stumps?"

Me "150 quid"

That's how I do it anyhow.

Same as me! You have to think your time, petrol, wear and tear on your grinder and you are a tradesman qualified and trained to do it. But there will always be times when someone will do it 'cheaper'???

I just look at a job and think well it's half a day by time I've loaded up and gone there do job and come back! Say £200 or if it's a full day £350 ish never had a problem charging for stump grinding

If I go to price a stump job and it's just a stump I put a price on it that I want to earn for the trouble of doing it. If it's a small tree and stump then I charge what I want to get from the job and I carry on like this as the stumps get bigger. I just charge what I want to get out of the job.:)

I have a carleton 4012, I charge my hourly rate and 10% for wear on the machine. I hate pedestrian grinders they are a pain in the butt to use.

But will go into lots of places a 4012 won't fit and the HB20 can grind anything a 4012 will;)

A good pedestrian grinder ( sharp teeth, good belts etc) and a good operator £600/ day should be achievable and IMO any stump worth grinding has to be £80/100+VAT. However there's a lot to be said for digging and or winching out smaller stumps.

Is there a word for a condition where someone believes that the equipment they have is all that's worth owning, be it truck, grinder etc. If there isn't i think it should be called Hodge's Syndrome.
