Young sycamore with rough bark?

Hi,

 

Am I right in thinking that this is a sycamore with a genetic variation away from the norm or is it something different? Is it an old sycamore that grew super slowly? It was next to other sycamores that didn't have this bark type. Why does it only have 2 buds on each end? It should have 3...

The leaf scars make it look like horse chestnut to me, and the buds would be about right. I expect I'll be proved wrong when it leafs out. Don't know about the paired buds; maybe the terminal bud just didn't develop.

 

This one is from my garden , Acer pseudoplat Brilliantissimum. So I suspect it is sycamore
