After having a discussion with VOSA employee!!

Carrying of goods for hire or reward..

Tow a chipper - fine tools of your job

Tow a trailer carrying a stump grinder, tracked chipper or wheeled chipper - fine tools of hot job

Tow a trailer with a chipper on a trailer and chip in the back of the towing vehicle- fine unless your selling the logs today next week or when ever then your carrying goods for sale or reward

Tow Trailer with logs or chip on which you may sell at a later point - no no carrying goods for hire or reward

If you carry it back to your own yard it's a waste product once you sell it on its goods. You need to be able to prove you have the correct means of disposing of the waste product other wise it is deemed its goods with intent for resale and have documented proof of disposal or look out!!

It would look like they are covering all options!!

I have noticed how easy the rules change without telling folk who will be the ones getting the penalties...

It's 50km (31 miles) radius for the distance exemption, this may increase to 100km in March.

Trailer must be less than 1024kg unladen for the operator's licence exemption.

You can only carry tools and equipments for the job you are travelling to, not goods for delivery, for the exemption to need a tachograph to record drivers' hours

I think it is 100km??

Just shows how difficult it is to grasp the vosa rules...... Lots of posts and lots of different answers......

Thats more of an internet problem where research can dig up out of date info. Keeping the right side of plod is a moving target so although these threads seem to go around in circles there will be some useful and correct info in there somewhere towards the end . It just needs putting through a strainer
