i always thought the clout bit was cloth or clothes as you would be sewn into your clothes for the winter years ago.

After I fell a tree I often stand on the stump and say "no one has stud hear for a bit",

 

a old timber guy I used to climb for used to say it.

Ah!! yes now you say that, I think I have heard that before.

 

What about the "clowt" bit ???

 

it is the thing you soak berrys in for making jam or jeely, you strain them in them before putting the jam into jeely jars:001_cool:its made of linen
