Chainsaw trousers earnt their money

I don't know anyone who gets too hung up over class, saw trousers are saw trousers! If it's of paticular concern, a cheaper option might be to slow down your chain speed by putting a sprocket with less teeth on, ie. A 9t sprocket is faster chain speed less torque, a 6t sprocket is more torque less speed

I'm fairly certain I've got that the right way round!

You have . But ....something with more torque is harder to stop if you are still on the gas

As said above you only do it once as cleaning all the protection out of your sprocket is a pita. I did something similar, end of the day on a friday and I guess I just took my eye off the ball for a microsecond, got in an awkward position and the next thing I knew I got a whack on the inside of my thigh and a load of kevlar thread flying around.:blushing:

class 2 is an unnecessary expense. they have only recently been brought into the industry to placate the health and safety nazis that saw a number in a book!

In reality they offer only a very small increase in protection but due to the heavier weight, bulk and an increased risk of exhaustion due to heat, its arguable that they put you at greater risk due to impaired judgement.

Buy a better pair of class A instead!! imho, of course!

Although I have not done any formal chainsaw courses, I have gone through the notes of the main one (LANTRA? - my brother did it and talked me through it), cross cutting and small tree; I have all the safety gear, and go through the checks for brake, chain stopper little metal bit, all that; always have my visor down before starting the chainsaw, etc. - and I have a friend who is the groundsman for the local golf course, who trained me how to properly sharpen the chain, and stood with me while I did some felling.

Informal courses! A momentary slip, that I hope can remind others; what was it Bismarck said? "Only a fool learns from his own mistakes. A wise man will learn from the mistakes of others"
