The third hose is a case drain and ideally needs to go straight to tank! as Kevm said put it in a bucket with some load on the hyd motor and you should not get a vast amount of oil coming from the drain line, if you do the motor is in bad shape!

If it turns out too be blead off from motor case you could plumb it back to tractor to a return valve with a filter fitted before it go s back in to tractor.

Thanks for the replies so far and a bit of an update

 

I managed to have a bit of a play with it yesterday, the two connections on the end are the forward/reverse drive but nothing seemed to come out of the 3rd pipe on top. It was only on idle speed and with no pressure on the pump so this may change when I can actually put a bit of stress on it.

 

The plan is to finish the mounting bracket at the end of this week and take it for a little test pull somewhere.

Make sure you fill the motor case with oil before you do to much with it! there has to be oil in there to lubricate swash plate etc. Fill it with the same oil as your putting through the motor. Hope the motor is in good shape.

If its a drain off pipe and your tractor hasnt got a return to tank already plug it into a spare spool and put the spare spool on float should work correctly the direct returns ive seen on tractors have all been very big fittings so would require adapters

That;s not a bad Idea for running the return.

I was planning on plumbing it into the return for the loader that used to be fitted but your way may be easier

You really should have it going straight back to tank without too much in the way of restrictions - too much backpressure and you will blow the shaft seal.

I would be very wary of putting it through a spool in case someone pulled the handle by mistake.

I have a winch a bit like that and it has a line for the brake. A bit like this one below. The brake circuit if it has one normally goes on a solenoid.
