I would think that is very much location dependent. We live on what was an Island until the rivers all silted up, so it creates a pretty natural boundary past which we charge. It's the same for most businesses locally. :)

Agreed it's partly location dependant. :001_smile:

What made me ask is just saw an advert offering free delivery within a 30 mile radius and smallest load was well under a £100. This is in a sparsely populated area but still 30 miles for free!

If you have a large catchment area, I'm sure it can be done relatively sensibly by doing X area Monday, Y area Tuesday etc. but we are fortunate in that we can arrange deliveries to suit the client.

The disadvantage of our location is the limited catchment area! :(

So how far will you go to deliver logs for free?...

I would have thought most people will have included delivery costs into their total running costs or added that to their quoted logs/bags price and averaged the quoted price out. So on the deliveries close to base, they earn a bit more and the ones a way off they earn a little less.

You do but a line has to be drawn somewhere. All single m3 loads get a £5 delivery charge from us to encourage 2m3 loads. Still only go about 8 mile radius before charging an extra delivery cost. It's not just the fuel but the shear time taken. A 16 mile round trip on Devon lanes can take an age.

Just had a quick look through our customers and the furthest one is 10 miles away and pays extra for the delivery.
