Get down hire shop first thing and get a 30-45ft rope operated triple ladder get into tree - spike or throw climbing rope depending how close you are to a limb. I would prefer steel wire on a digger if pulling. Cut some ivy and fell. Boom boom

Failing that get the digger to put you into tree just above ivy and spike the rest.

How long would the gaffs have to be to get through the ivy ? Couldn't you do like Zorro and climb up the ivy ?

:marchmellow:

I wasn't imagining the gaffs going through the ivy, just wondered if anyone has spiked up ivy covered trees by spiking into the stems. Quite often they are nearly two inches thick spiraling up around the tree.

was going to used 40ton digger to pull it over. problem with throw line in old pine is they get stuck in the bark and ivy. the trunk is only about 25" but the ivy about 3m

A 40 ton digger, you wont even need to put a cut in in if you've got a big enough cable!!!!!!!!!!!

In an ideal world i would install my anchor from the ground and spoke up the ivy...I seem to get the Ivy climbs.i'm quite a physical climber so I would either plough up the stem cursing as I go tearing away at it or I would take it steady and delicately and tip toe up....either way it wouldn't be pretty but I 'do get up there!

got to Cambridge talked to the boss he said not doin the job tpo on tree and a lot of the surrounding tree which aren't there any more. just a lot of turned up soil left and one tree. the guy we were doin it for said they had permission but now we think not. all a bit suspect.

means I don't have to climb the ivy stick but also means I don't get paid mixed feeling's
