Can laylandi be worked into benches etc green or would it twist and split into nowt but logs?

 

I know its going to be no use untill its seasoned cause of the sap escaping and leaving sticky stuff all over you if you get within 5ft of it:laugh1: but in theroy if the bench was made green would i survive untill it dryed enough to use?

Think I've read on here that some people use it to make outdoor furniture as it is a durable wood, and if you cut it thick enough shouldn't warp too much

I have seen it used and knew it was a durable timber but i wasnt sure if i could work it green (Ive not got anywhere sutable to season timber but could find a home for a few benches to sit for a year for the sticky stuff to escape

in my opinion it is a vastly underrated timber and sadly everyone just wants to cut it up when they fell one.

Very good question, as stated completely underrated timber.

I milled some around three years ago, green, & made a bench for my garden, didn't treat it & it has no splits or cracks & virtually no resin came out.

We use it green regularly for outdoor furniture/benches. Lovely stuff to work. Durable, sands nicely (at the expense of a few more sanding discs than dry timbers) and oil really 'pops' the grain pattern.
