You could try a hard reset: disconnect the battery and touch the + and - leads together for 20 seconds or so, this will drain any capacitors in the system and might turn off the light....

Cos if he had a crash his insurance company or their assesors would be all over it like a rash..... Some insurance companies will go to any length to get out of paying.
