The problem with jobs for 'mates' and family is that you're a mate only until they get the cheap price, then you're tradesman - or in reality, treated worse than one, because they think they can ask for the world in an oyster because you're a mate/family and then treat you in a way they wouldn't dream of treating a stranger. It never ends.

 

I'll either do such jobs for full price or free. The other problem is that a mate of a mate of a mate - which is what such jobs often are - aren't really 'mates' at all.

My thinking is well yes, we're a professional outfit with all the necessary insurance, qualifications, approved contractors, etc, etc. The guys who can do it cheaper, you obviously don't want mooching around your house and garden! That's what you pay for.

I think I'm going go to the BMW show room and tell them how much I like theirs cars and would really like to buy one, BUT the Skoda dealer just down the road is so much cheaper, wonder if they will help me out?????????

The problem is as already stated its "family" OK not immediate but never the less they figured you would go and do it for beer money, and not tescos finest either , there are 2 types of relative one that wants to pay your rate and above and the other that doesn't want to part with anything but would screw you down if the tables were turned,

Well he used a couple of lads from down the village armed with chainsaws and an old climbing kit! They did it for £750 with no insurance or quals!! Oh well!!
