Someone needs to tell the dealers that !!. I use the 4L of red I had as diesel additive to lube the injection pump on my old MF135 and our bigger JDs, they do not like this new diesel without lube (Sulpher?) in it.

 the dealers make money from you wrecking a saw! It states in all the current manuals - alkylate fuel is preferable, failing that, jaso FD (husky XP or Stihl hp super, or equivalent) at 50:1 with >5% ethanol, everything else at 33:1

Some of us do but it can be difficult as sometimes we get accused of up selling a product.

Don't use the most basic of oils in the most powerful machines available.

  • 4 weeks later...

We found the ignition module loose and replaced it which we think has solved the running issue, unfortunately when the saw was started up it ticked over ok but when revved broke the flywheel key.

I am pretty sure that the flywheel was properly on and well tightened down (need a spanner to remove the nut after the key broke) - has anyone else had this or is there any trick to refitting the flywheel not mentioned in the manual.

Any help appreciated

Cheers

You did space it between the magnet and ignition module didn't you and not just anywhere on the flywheel?

The magnets can sit slightly higher than the rest of the flywheel and they can foul the ignition module if you didn't put a business card or similar between the magnets and module.

Saying that you should have felt it binding slightly when you pulled the saw over before it started?

! Are you saying that current Diesel is no longer suitable for older (rotary pump) Diesel engines ??

Yes. the sulpher was removed from diesel a couple of years ago. The sulpher acted as a lubricant in the pump. Use a drop of the red 2 stroke mix. I use a couple of doses that you would use for 5L of petrol in 20L of deisel. If the engine feels sluggish under load perhaps when cutting through a large lump then add a drop more.

560XP have a laptop terminal, a dealer can plug into it a diagnose faults. That might save you some time and expense.

The Walbro carb is marked on the side of the body with its model, there was also a change of fuel hose as the original could get flattened when the machine was moving on the av springs which would lean the mixture, the new hose is shaped better to stop this happening

Crank bearing cage failed ? this is a fault i have seen many times , flywheel strikes coil , engine will feel ok turning by hand but the bearings all bunch up when running causing play in the crank and and flywheel will hit the coil

Well fitted a new flywheel and top end power is absolutely fine but now the saw will not idle for more than 10 seconds or so and if allowed to die back to idle dies as soon as the throttle is touched.

I have had it in heavy timber and run it on load continuously as recommended without any change - do we get it reset to factory conditions or have we upset something in the carb when we stripped the carb down to check it?

Cheers
