Choosing an axe!

I think when your splitting rings the axe is only part of the equation, the most expensive axe buried into a knot at the wrong angle won't split the log, also a splitting block that's not solid and on a solid foundation will hinder the job, obvious stuff I know but it all helps.

And of course if axe head gets buried, lift axe and log and bring down backwards, 9/10 log will either split or fall off!

I think that is true of tractor splitters too.

I can work my Oxdale all day without getting stuck, stepson jams it first go. I have used an axe a lot over the years, he hasn't.
