Secretary wages?

Thinking of taking on a secretary to handle the phone, take messages, sort out advertising, wages, take details of jobs and so on - just a small crew, not a huge business.

I'm wondering how much would be a fair daily/weekly wage for such work?

I've tried leaving my dog to deal with it and she's OK with dealing with salesmen but stuff all else ...

If it's not breaking any confidences, what would you pay (a rough figure would be fine of course) such a person?

Thanks

So, is it reasonable to pay a doris to sit on her arris and answer the phone more than you might be willing to pay a grafter, out in all weather dragging brash and burning calories?

A cheeky nod to the concession that the doris might be a geezer, but the same question applies..... In fact, it would probably be worse if doris was a geezer sitting in the office.

You could try taking one on through a temp agency on a short-term basis to start with. This is what we do when we have gaps between secretaries. They are generally very good, start quickly and if it works out they may want to stay on, if it doesn't work for you (either the principle or the individual) then terminating the contract is easy. The agency will also know exactly what they expect to be paid.
