Haggling, who does it?

What amuses me is people who always want to win a negotiation always leave feeling like they have, yes they may have paid less than initially asked, but do they realise they may have been set up!

First rule of dealing with a haggler, is double your price and add a little bit more.

2nd rule, always let them think they are winning!

So weeks down the line when they start to realise, their big old ego won't let them believe what happened, so they defend the seller😀

But what do I know?😉

Yeah but if you do your research first you can outwit that plan before it's even set up. Knowledge is power.

I see anyone that tries to really haggle me down as a prick.

I try not to be a prick, not saying that I always meet my own expectations though :laugh1:

Seriously if I cant afford to pay for someones service or buy something I dont buy it, unless your in Turkey trying to get a pair of fake ray bans for less than £500 then I dont see the point.

I have lost tons of jobs over the years for not dropping my price, i never regretted one of them.

The Goldstein school of business, always offer them half. I saw some shoes at £50 so I said I'll give you £25 for them. The assistant replied we might be able to do them for £40 so I said I'll give you £20. She returned with £30 is the lowest we can go so I said I'll give you £15. Look I'll let you have them at cost, £20 to get rid of you. I'll take them for £10. If I give you the shoes will you go away and leave me alone.

I wanted two pairs.

I have pitched at businesses at a decent price only to have them go to their current supplier and get them to drop their price below mine. This drop has been as much 15-20%. Call me old fashioned but if a supplier can drop by that much they were charging too much in the first place.
