So what makes a good groundie?

Being new to this work I just completed cs30/31. At the mo I'm not looking for employment but saw an ad here for a 'good groundie' & wondered what it meant. I guess keeping a step ahead of the climbers, generally clearing up & watching the tools for security (chasing off the chavs) & readiness for use. Is this about right? Goes without saying I'd be on tea making duties.:001_rolleyes:

I think what makes a good groundie is someone who can put himself in the position of what the climber is thinking. Ie making sure ropes are clear, organising brash, being able to send a pre warmed saw up I think is vital, amount of times I've had a cold ms660 brought up to me I've been livid.

Also I think it's how a groundie is treated. My brother grounds for me and works his balls off. Don't know many people like him. Without them we would just be monkeys in a tree so what I'm trying to say is also make sure you work with people who can respect you not just boss you around.

don't know who some fowk have worked with, but you do tend to get the feeling sometimes that ground staff are worthless good for nothing braindead morons plucked from the dole queue and should be talked about and treated as excrement on ones shoe!

That's strange, they all speak highly of you.:thumbup1:
