Working in the heat

Unaccustomed as we are to hot weather, what precautions do you take to care for your staff welfare. Personally, i carry extra water, use a camelbak, try and get out of chainsaw gear as quick as possible. Inevitably we still have to work hard to meet work dead-lines, complete jobs and such like, and this week most of that will be in the full sun, so fatigue will set in quicker, be carefull.:001_cool:

With the water, I try and drink before I feel thirsty, if that makes sense. I find it's the hard hat that makes me wilt; if I don't need to wear it, I'll swap it for a cap. Normally, that's not possible, so a bit of cloth as a sweatband helps, and mine has a flap at the back which keeps the sun off my neck.

In the past, I've worked mediterranean hours: early start as possible, knock off at 11 or so, restart at 2 or 3 for another 4 hours or so.

Today I have worked in my jeans, drank 3 litres of iced water and loads of salt on my dinner and I have still come home feeling rubbish with a huge migraine.

You must eat plenty salt with your evening meal to replace what you have lost during the day.

It's supposed to be hotter tomorrow so I may only work half a day and again in jeans.

the best drink for working in heat is fruit squash (whatever flavour you like!) and a teaspoon or two of salt mixed with it. (for a 2 litre bottle)

this does a similar job as lucozade sport and the like, for a fraction of the price.
