Yes but economically it is still more more money and more effort hence obese people don't want to spend the money and time to make the effort. Easier to pay £2 pound oven on and wait!! Vicious cycle. Healthy people will pay more for fresh healthy rather than frozen equivalent and won't mind cooking it! It makes sense really.

Compare like with like

A homemade pizza does not cost the same to make as the example meal you have quoted!

Also frozen chicken pasta bake Iceland £2.

There will be plenty of healthy people who buy cheap cuts of meat, prepare their own veg, etc and eat very well for very little.

Some people are fat and lazy, but its their doing, no one else's.

Make that with fresh ingredients for £1 like for like?!

It isn't going to happen, a lot of people choose or have to buy this type of food to save money or simply to get by, to say you can eat like for like from fresh ingredients for anywhere near similar money is just wrong!

Sensible shopping, bulk buying veg and fruit in season along with bulk cooking/freezing meals can be pretty cheap- not much more than buying convenience foods.

When I lived alone I budgeted a fiver a night, but that included for steak a few times a week and a few glasses of wine.

Simples

Rice is cheap as chips, and when cooked counts for almost half of the 500g weight in the meal. The most expensive item is the chicken -12% of 500g is 60g, cost less than 50p even if you buy it ready cooked. Remainder of ingredients are either spices, seasoning, milk, onion, cooking oil or flour - which most kitchens should have as stock items anyhow!

You can get 1KG of chicken breast from tesco for under £4 pounds and 1KG of rice for under £1 (dry weight)

I reckon that would produce at least 8 portions (wet weight)
