Arb chip - is it okay for paths?

Looking for something to suppress weeds between our raised beds, for the paths - we have quite a big area to cover and bark type chips are too expensive.

 

Is arb chip suitable? And safe?

As chip is organic it rots so perhaps re-lay the paths annually, shovelling the old stuff straight onto the beds?

We supply 2 sets of allotments with arb chip, as well as a couple of organic growers, who use them between their raised beds. They can't seem to get enough.

might be worth putting down weed matting before chips.

we give all our chips away, lots go on paths, stables and allotments as mentioned earlier.

All the rotted chip on paths is dug striaght into beds , and new stuff put down, soil is now growing excellent veg.

I know folk who have put old carpet down on paths and then put the Woodchip on top.
