If you can't do it, don't do it.

Sounds like you can't.

Lowering off your own line, naughty but most people I've worked with will do it oftimes.

Old climbing line is fine for lowering within reason. If you are subbing for this guy its up to you to have the gear, you should have some kind of lowering line in your kitbag.

As others have said cars underneath causes new problems.

Aerial rescue? Would be nice but in practice........

It's easy really-

1 Don't do it if your unhappy

2 Buy a small rigging kit. (Every climber needs one)

3 sub yourself with a fully qualified ground operative, if he doesn't supply one.

Ps- there are 3 sides to every story.

Yours side, his side and the truth!

The majority of the comments are your truth

Am I seriously the only person who has never needed to lower on his climbing line!? Hand hold, use a strap to hold if it's heavy, or use a rigging line. You should know if you'll need to lower before you go up the tree!

Lowering from your climbing line is lazy and points to bad practice IMO.

Open to correction.
