Removing Leylandii

Hi folks I'm new to the forum so please excuse my lack of experience / knowledge.

 

I was removing a Leylandii hedge for my in laws and got talking to their neighbours who had just had 6 Leylandii trees / hedge removed. The trees in question were around the 14-16 foot mark. He had 2 guys for 1 day removing them and was charged £2750.00 the work included cut down and leave the stumps which were groved with the bar of the saw and apparently herbicide was applied.

The in laws hedge was around the 7ft mark and I had them all down in about 4 hrs (7 trees).

 

I was wondering if this was the going rate for this type of work the guys were removing all the arisings off site in a transit (apart from all the larger limbs and trunks that were dumped in the tree plantation at the back of the properties).

 

I used to be a contracts estimator (local authority) for grounds maintenance & soft and hard landscaping contracts and have tried pricing this up but can't seem to get anywhere near that price as it seems on the high side.

As I said at the start I'm new to this type of work and I don't want to sell myself short on the other hand I don't want to be ripping a potential customer off and risk losing the work.

 

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I,d say at £2750 he was overcharged a bit

Even higher than greedy old me!

I rather think the traveling classes have been plying OUR trade again ha ha ha!

I wish they'd just stick to stealing trailers and plant, then we'd all know where we stood!

The rate for a tree surgery crew tends to be around £500 - £800 a day, including climbing kits, saws, truck and chipper and either 2 or 3 guys.

 

By the sounds of it your neighbour had a very expensive 'tree team' in, however there is an argument that if the customer is happy to pay it then that's up to them, surely they would have had more than one quotation for the work?

 

I for one, wouldn't be pricing a job like that anywhere near £2750, but I haven't seen it either!

Great if you can get it £1375 per man for 1 days work, take away your expences ,gotta come out with at least £1300. Next time you see the bloke get his number and pm it to me PLEASE!

Even if the hedge was on an island, infested with pyracantha, razor wire, used needles and being serenaded by a naked Scotsman playing the bagpipes it should of been that much....
