I just give the files a good few raps on something to clear the debris from it during filing every few teeth. Seems to keep them from loading up. I get quite a few sharpenings out of my save edges I get from Mackin Rob-D.

I used to use the save edge files, they were very very good, the last box I had didn't seem to last as long as the others though

also the hardness/grade of steel/ temper and some are chrome steel coated for longevity so its a minefield what file to choose i use oregon & save edge but i lean more to use save edge they seem to be less skiddy and take more off on each stroke so quicker to touch my chains up and crack on etc i use full chisel oregon multicut chrome steel chains as i'am ringing up dirty/muddy arb waste etc

On a new chain I give each cutter a rub with a rolled copy of the Sporting life then weld a knob on each raker ......

How much faster does it cut then? Does it have to be sporting life?

How long is your knob on each raker?
