I had a real nightmare with Natwest last year. I went into the local branch to shut down an old savings account that wasn't used anymore. Some how they managed to close my current account at the same time, even though it had about £4k in it at the time! It took over 30 phone calls (almost daily) and visits to the bank to get it sorted. SIX weeks in all!!!

Did I mention that even though the account was under investigation they still kept sending me fines for not paying standing orders and direct debits.

They did compensate me in the end, but it don't half make things difficult when everything is on stop.

I can't believe I'm reading this! This is EXACTLY what's been happening with me since 4th August; monies have been going into the account and yet this months direct debits and standing orders have been unpaid and I can't use the account... Major nightmare...:thumbdown::thumbdown:

I've never been charged a penny in fees by my business bank. No overdraft though. Plus they pay me £25 every year for the privilege of being my bank.

(Co-operative FSB account if you're wondering)

Ditto.

Disappointed with the bad press they've been getting recently as I've been with then four years now and not a single problem. Absolute revelation after the shower of **** I was with prior to moving.

It gets better!

I noted the name of the person and the time I spoke to them each time I rang the call centre. Every time I asked to speak to a manager I got told that they were in a meeting and they would call me back-not once did a manager call me!

I then took my list of names/times into the local branch and insisted I spoke to the manger NOW. Eventually the manager came out and took me into a side room. He got on to the powers that be to explain my situation ( to be fair he was flabbergasted). My situation only got sorted when I refused to leave the bank!

You may need ya pack-up and a flask to get it sorted.:laugh1:

Referring it to the ombudsman now, and changing bank. Shortlisted Lloyds, Co-op and Santander.
