Interested to hear what solutions are out there, other folks experiences etc.

I need to provide a safe working platform for my current job and my thoughts were to get say five builders trestles to form a semi circle around the tree and overlay scaff boards.

I won't need to go higher that four foot with it but want to know if this has been done before successfully or whether scaffolding is a better option.

Your thoughts are most welcome :-)

i have used ally decoraters scafford which set up is approx 4ft deep by 8-10ft wide. you can set the platform every foot or so, bit annoying ahving to move it everynow nd then but not too bad. also have used 2 workmates and scaff boards.

Thanks for the input guys, I'm carving a couple of 9 ft ish oak butts and where normally I would just stand on another log etc this time I need to adhere to hs regs. They're stood up on some sleeper sized posts so about 8 inch off ground and the ground is pretty level.

A good scaffolder will knock you something up or show you how to put something up. Once you've seen it go up once you can buy the bits that are used and you'll be able to put it up yourself not much to it.

I've got a similar issue mate, got a carve to do,it's about 11ft, leaning, and the grounds all over the shop. Still racking ma brains. Got loads of builders trestles but wouldn't be happy on them, a pain to move up and down, bit wobbly, no handrail. Keep us posted on your set-up or any bright ideas, I'll do likewise, cheers.

Lyte Ladders & Towers

Might be something to consider Simon. This one is fairly portable and can be added to in the future. The company are very good to deal with and I have had spares sent very quickly.

I've got the bigger helix tower which would probably be overkill for your project but feel very safe up there.

As you go bigger get a PASMA course booked which might help with insurance and your H+S obligations.
