Big spruce pics.

These are some shots of some work we were doing today, I was working on a big hung up spruce while Andrew was dismantling another 3, we had already started the job and still have more to do..

I couldn't winch the stem back because there is a small ravine behind where it would inevitably got stuck, thats assuming my winch would have moved it at all, the top of the tree would have also smashed a deer fence and a wall. I stripped almost all the brash off it whilst tied in to a neighbouring tree, working around to keep a clear escape route. The escape route was essentially a big leap into space away from the hanger followed by contact with the standing tree. I was never tied in to the hanger. In the end the tree just sat there even after I removed all the branches in contact with the other trees and felled the top off, amazingly it barely moved and inch, just coming up slightly thanks to the huge rootplate.

It was 68 years old, impressive growth...

Nice work Tom. Pretty girthy at the but end.

Especially when you consider it was only 68 years old, she was over a foot thick where I topped her, and that must have been around 80 foot. I was tied in maybe 25 foot from the top of the tree on the left and had a 30 foot drop on another line when my 45m rope ran out, so they are big trees, probably around 110-120 foot.

Nice Tom. Any vid?

I have a short vid of Andrew felling that top off filmed from my tree, but none of what I was doing. The pictures are pretty disappointing tbh, lots are out of focus. I need to get a decent SLR.
