roof rack on truckman canopy?

I had some custom made roof racks for mine I will post some pictures of them tomorrow

I would be very wary of putting anything heavy on your rack as it stands. It is one thing having a dead load while parked up but the roof rack needs to survive the dynamic loads when cornering and braking. If it was my project I would look to reinforce the existing canopy around the fixing points to spread the load. Also make a flat area for the metal brackets to seat onto. Should be fairly straight forward with it being GRP. I would double up the L brackets so they sit back to back making an upturned T.

 

It may be fine as is but my gut feeling is needs more beefing up.

this is the truckman roof rail kit, it simply bolts through some pre marked holes on the roof.

 

I figured my effort was no worse? ................... as far as fixing is concerned.

 

I think I will add some extra plate to the interior, perhaps some bar, front to rear to tie it together.

Sorry did not realise those canopies were designed for rails. A flat pad where you bolt through or a big rubber pad might help though.

I think the big rubber pad sounds like a great idea! I used some rubber washers to seal the drill holes and take any vibe out of it. I think pads will work better.

 

Once this monsoon passes I will get the front one fitted and road test her:001_huh:

Has given me ideas about how to knock up a rack for the transit tipper box etc

I'd drill the bracket so that there was two fixings on each bracket going through the canopy, I'd also use Nylock nuts or thread lock........ya wouldn't want any of ya nuts becoming loose.

Could just use centre pop to deform threads and lock the nuts on

Or better drill and use split pins

If you not quite sure bout the load weight when cornering etc, just add another bracket in the centre and make it less flexie:thumbup:
