We have the A540 and it is a good m/cn but today chipping a lot of connie we had that recurring problem of the top roller getting stuck up . Fed a few bigger loge through which usually sorts it but not this time . When its like this it wont pull fluffy brash through . Had to put a big log in and stop it mid chip so it held the top roller up and I could dig out the crap from under the spigot of the top roller . Has the Forst equivalent model over come this occasional irritation ?

Had a demo of the 6" but hopper too narrow for me. Apparently hopper on 8" is wider than my Jenson A540 so it'll be perfect.

Oh yeah, I'd forgotten about the small dreadful hopper.

I agree that if the 8" is good and wide it will be an absolute winner.

The narrow hopper makes no difference imo the in feed is so aggressive it just drags it in.

In the last 6months I have never once thought the hopper is a problem, and I was concerned if I'm honest.

That's good to hear Ian. Years ago I had a dreadful chipper with a hopper as wide as a toaster. It was even worse than a 6" Timberwolf!

Therefore I obsess about hopper width in the same way that I obsess about the ice cubes melting in my drink.

I understand where you're coming from mate and I do agree, if the in feed wasn't as good it would be a pita but 6 months in and im still chuffed with it.

Interesting comments !!

The Forst is a British designed, British built chipper !

So that's two things the Jensen hasn't got !

The top feed roller is much like Schliesing

Belt tension via a flat pulley on the inside pulling out like Greenmech/Timberwolf

Chute like Jensen

Stress control with green/red buttons was on the Jensen first!

Bank grease point Schliesing

It goes on....

It is meant to be the best bit of all of them, it's called design research !!

The Forst was developed to fill in the size gaps that Jensen wouldn't make

There is always room for improvement but at least with the Forst there's someone there that will listen!..

The sales figures will tell which is best

Is it a chipper, is it a mower or another broken stump grinder who cares we'll fix it!

YES the ST6 Has this problem to it is a real pain. Forst tell me they have come up with a fix but they still have not returned my calls to book it in to get fixed only been waiting over 6 months :town:

The good thing with the ST6 is it has a small bar looks like a small felling bar that you slot into the top roller and it helps with opening the rollers, then you screw in a bolt & it hold it open.

Redwood - Jensen importers

Redwood - Forst manufacturer

Redwood/Forst same people!!

Ask Redwood for the contact number of your nearest service dealer !

They should be able to sort any warranty issues out quicker!!

Wefixit, may I ask if you are attached to or part of, the Redwood setbup?

I asked Robert why Jensen allow Redwood to be the importer of Jensen and assemble the Forst machine. After all, there is a business conflict and from his comments, I would think that at some point in the future, Jensen will come in via another route.
