i have been asked to bale 300 ish small bales of hay, never done baling for someone else before

 

whats the going rate per bale

HI MATE just to bale it or turn it to just to make a bale from cutting it to turning and bales im told here by farmer it £2,50/£3 a bale thanks jon :thumbup:

That was the price to buy it in the field until recently. If just baling and you don't have any problems it is just an hour in the field. depending how far you have to go to do the job I would suggest half a days labour rate plus a bit for the tractor if its for a mate. £1.50 per bale if you don't really want the job!

Paid 50 p a bale for small hay baling a couple of years ago. I think still about the same. Contractor turned up with new baler and did 600 bales in just under 2 hours, so i think rate is fair to all at that money.

What baler and tractor do you have. I used to bale in late 80s early 90s with oldish international 440. Averaged 300- 400 bales per hour and the farmer used to sell it at £1 a bale delivered up to 20 miles in loads 200 -250. I managed to load and unload 3 loads with round trip 25 miles one day 225 bales on each load all roped, no ratchet straps then!
