Next doors hens!

Our next door neighbours decided to get half a dozen hens not so long back. They built a lovely pen to keep them safe!......that said there is only a four foot fence that devides our gardens (meaning they roam when not in the pen) Today one of the hens took a look over our side of the fence, until it was captured by one of our dogs.....He's not the softish of mouthed Spaniels:sneaky2:

 

Basically the dog mullered it. It's not dead but, it's in no fit state to be going on.

 

I spoke to the neighbour and said I would put it out of its misery, to which he said he was going to leave it overnight and see how it goes on.

 

Thoughts please.

Shame for the hen, but really not your problem either, if you choose to have hens then its entirely the owners resposibilty to prevent them straying, or accept the consequences.

Sounds like it'd be kinder to put it out of its misery sooner rather than later.

Do they not clip the wings?

If it's in a bad way then it's more humane to dispatch it it will probably die by the morning if it's that bad anyway certainly shouldn't be left to suffer .

even if it's not badly injured

it will probably die of shock

tell your neighbour to clip one wing only they have trouble flying in a straight line then

id leave it overnight .......marinating for 12 hours ensures the best results !

Hi eggs mate if the hen is on it last legs i no this my up some members but it best the hen to put it out mate and tell them to keep there over there side mate you what told you about ours thanks Jon

Ours have clipped wings, they can't get over the 6ft to the neighbours anymore, but they can sort of hop onto a 4 ft fence of their run, but but the dog soon chases them back.

It is really down to them to keep them in though, but would be better to kill it now than let it suffer for longer I would have thought.
