whats the calculation for working out hopist feet in a log ? i can easly do cubic feet but not hopist also how much per hopist foot for yew ?

As I replied; Hoppus foot is the square of the quarter girth in feet times length. If you have already calculated true cubic feet then as there is a difference of Pi/4 between the two measures you can just multiply true cubic feet by 0.785398163 to give Hoppus ft

a hoppus foot is a cylinder of 1 foot long by 4 feet in girth or 15.2788745368 diameter.

it equates to 1.27323954473 cubic feet.

i use 1 1/4ft3 for simplicity

when measuring wood i look at a logs average diameter, work out the area of the end of the log (pi X r2) then times by the length. to get the hoppus foot measurement i divide by 5 and times by 4. as i use small logs it's just accurate enough but for large quantities you may wan to be more accurate

Mid Quarter Girth (in inches) squared, divided by four, times the length in feet, then divide by 144.

Either mid girth in inches squared and divided by 16 or mid quarter girth squared and divide the lot by 144 to get back to square feet (Hoppus)

e.g..10 foot long 48 inch girth log

=10*48*48/144/16

=10*12*12/144
