I like Oregon; I've also tried Stihl semi synthetic. I'd say there's not much difference while cutting or quantity used overall or the price. But on a cold day, the Stihl comes out of the can a little quicker. Oh, and when it comes to cleaning, there seems to be less sawdust filled gunge and is easier to clean with Oregon. So Stihl on really cold days, if only to speed up refuelling times but Oregon at every other time.

We used veg oil for a bit, found every fill meant giving the chain tightener half a turn. Ordered a 200l drum of chain oil from local dealer - literally comparing treacle and milk, the chain oil "gloops" whereas the veg oil just cascaded out of can

Could you please be more specific as in what kind of oil you used?

There's maybe 50 different kinds of "veggie" oil and there is only one you can use to perfectly lubricate your saws chain.

I've had the same with Husqvarna Vegoil. Going back to mineral on the next drum - chains always going slack and bars getting worn at a hell of a rate.

That's really strange because I noticed the opposite.

You didn't change over from Stihl to Oregon chains at the same time? Stihl chains are pre stretched, Oregon is not. How is your sprocket and nose wheel. New or worn.

All I'm saying is that there really is no extra wear on your chains when using canola oil.
