I had warmed the saw up I would find it wouldn't start then tried keeping the saw ticking over while hanging on my the harness but found that when I picked it up I would go to make a cut and it would stall and then not start after pulling it over about a dozen times.

Very similar symptoms for me but different saw (346xp).

I found, after it was hot it goes through phases where it will idle fine, but as I pick it up and just as im away to make a cut, it cuts out on me. This of course can get rather frustrating. It's not too bad for starting again but can need quite a few pulls at times and a bit of a mess about with the choke on occasion too. Also, it can feel like its away to cut out when operating the saw which can make you keep your finger hovering over the trigger and that ain't exactly ideal.

Just got my 540t back after being repaired seems ok can't wait to use it in anger

I never drop my saw, I always clip it short even a 660 I am very any about it as I hate hauling saws up to me or having them banging into my ankles. I work the saws hard but never bang them about.

Only kidding, I agree with what you say there, I dont like my saws swaying about, catching on every branch and twig.

No not sure what they did I think they replaced the carb

Ha ha ha good observation there Sir, although that was in 2007 about the time I changed my habits.

I have this saw and have to say only use it now and again but its reliable always starts and cuts viciously

Just got mine back from my , ever so helpful and friendly dealer . It was running erratically and stalling . This was the problem ...There is a secondary butterfly valve to the right of the main butterfly that follows the the main one with a slight delay . ( a feature of X torque engines ) The seal around it was not seated properly . My dealer ( DM Chainsaws of Walberton West Sussex Fixed it with no charge )
