I am sorry for your loss. Cherish the memories of the time you shared with your best friend.

I hope you will be able to fill the void in your life and once again by finding a new dog, when your ready. I have lost 3 cats in the last 4 years and their total life span was nearly

60 human years!. Keep your self busy, and when you and your wife are ready for a new family member make the decision and fill the void within your daily routein and lives.

Take care.

Deepest sympathies mate.

Very sad, but it sounds like you gave him a great life, and a peaceful ending.

Augusts bumper sticker really strikes a chord. Seems like you were that man.

RIP Don.

Thoughts are with you mate.

Thanks all, Tommy B that book is so near the mark except Ernie liked to clean himself anytime between 1am and 5am , slup slurp slobber slobber it always amazed us how he could produce so much slobber, had it on the ceiling, lights and doors then everytime standing at the door before going outside he would shake the slobber all over the walls and door, god bless him.

Feel for you Broonie, not much more to say.

ps

having briefly googled the breed, not dissimilar to our bastard mastiff Max, in looks and temperment.

He got the one way ticket about 6 weeks ago.

Thank you all for your kind words and support.

We have had Ernie cremated and will be scattering some of his ashes at his favourite spot on the reclaimed quarry across the road. He had so many fun times over there.

We have a spot at the corner outside our property at the junction of the main road pavement and the lane that leads to the 2 fields at the back of our house where they exercise their dogs where, many of his dog friends and owners pass and have a chat so am planning a memorial bench there for them to sit chat and have a wee rest.

Honestly, there is nothing that you can say that is going to take away someone’s pain for losing a loving animal like that. I hope that you feel better knowing that you gave as much love as you received in return. It has been a few years since I have lost my old boy (Irish setter) but I can still feel it…best of luck to you and sorry for your loss.
