Most good hydro sites are used and contribute about 2% of England's plus Wales' electricity, more in Scotland. In fact if you calculate the mass times height times gravity of ALL the rainwater that falls on land over 300 metres above sea level you will see even this cannot make more than 6GW if my sums are right, in winter we consume 55GW.

Hadn't considered that NOT charging vat is considered a subsidy towards fossil fuels

So not charging vat on childrens clothing is really giving a helping hand to parents ......

Also is there a different rate of vat for green energy?

There's a very hard fact based truth at work here guys.

This planet cannot sustain/absorb/survive our current means of power generation.

If the whole world were to emulate the US or UK's methods it'd toxify this planet in relatively short order.

So if we are truly a smart highly evolved people who lead by example worthy of emulating?

Then drop this cave man mentality and bloody well get on with the job of smart and logic based leadership already.

You say you care about your children's future. Then turn around advocating Fukushima'ing them all. Lumps of coal n acid rain for their Xmas stockings!

The Dickens you say?

Agree 100% BUT letting load of toffs pocket £millions won't achieve it ......

I was helping run recycling company in 1970's when everybody thought we were freaks,...

Watching my wife put our rubbish though dishwasher before it goes for recycling drives me nuts ....And I suspect it goes into landfill

If you want to save a £bilion look closely at whats going on in recycling industry,

Councils all over UK. Are composting hundreds of thousands of tons of garden waste AND THEN DUMPING IT, wigan met " recycled " 155,000 tons and dumped it on a farm, Chester similar and use it on roadside, Denbighshire pay Lord Newborough £8/tonne to take it away ........THAT IS NOT GREEN and it won't save the planet.....

Apologies if anything changed i did research three yearsgo
