Just a scratch really but 1cm away from a main tendon and 2 cm away from a main artery.

Just a touch more could have been catastrophic, better to have a warning "scratch" than months off work and house repossession.

I did an emerency first aid course last year to keep my ticket up to date, and we were told that if you sever a main artery, you will bleed to death in 6 minutes, and probably pass out after 4 minutes..... which means, in basic terms, if you catch an artery up a tree, you have 4 minutes to get to the deck and get help..

I really do feel so relieved for you Dean.... honestly mate, your scratch is a dice with death..

This post could have been alot different... and we could all have been in shock talking about the death of a friend.

'Experienced tree surgeon dies in tragic accident'

Anybody, experienced or not, should read this post and take note.... this is a warning to us all, and I admire you for having the balls to post up the photos in the first place.
