Apprentice troubles

I do try and treat anyone as I like to be treated. I pay more than minimum wage, he's pickup up and dropped of at home most days, I take him out climbing on my own time at weekends. I've even put one boy up at my own home for a few months so he could save up for his own place.

There's certainly no bullying or taking advantage going. Not that I should have to justify my actions, but I feel I have to.

Sorry if I've given you or anybody else the impression that I felt you were in the wrong. I was only commenting on Andy's and Amy's posts. :001_smile:

Having been a trainee/apprentice in a few different jobs, everyone likes to feel valued and listened to. An apprentice who quits without prior warning feels they cannot talk to you, you have to make your staff want to discuss issues with you, it's called teamwork for a reason. An employer needs to put themselves out, give adequate training and instruction, communication is vital, and secondly, don't work the arse off them every day! This sector of work isn't done for money, love of the job is vital, especially when rain is going horizontal. Remember it works both ways in this job, what you want, and what your employees want too!

I want an apprentice who wants to learn this trade, is able to listen and take instruction. I want someone who will turn up on time and not be a text hog. I will offer decent pay and working environment. Surely there must be someone like that around??

I've been working for my company for 2 years now, started the apprenticeship and loved it, the main thing I found was that I didn't need specific help from anyone I was just left to help out and follow the lads I worked with, anything else I needed to learn I did at college and used it in practice at work, I have finished it now and I believe it's made me into a good worker, it's not the apprenticeships that are the problem its the lazy people who can't be bothered to do them. I am 20 now btw

I'd snap an arm and a leg off for that. At the moment I work delivering for Asda and then 2 mornings a week and my day off tree work.. pays a bit worse than Asda but job satisfaction is wayyy more important for me. Hate working for a bunch of corporate muppets
