Was considering getting an Ms261 c m, but the dealer advised against due to problems with earlier models. I did a search on here and read all the problems you guys have had with them.

I just wondered if the issues have been resolved with this latest version ?

I can't really understand how anyone would want a MS261 anyway, when the 550xp (and 346xp) is out there....:001_rolleyes:

The 550XP does not even compare to an MS261 ... in my experience, the former is unreliable and flimsy. The Stihl as used by the chap I work with just keeps on keeping on with the usual maintenance required ... I use the MS291 as a mid range agricultural saw ... starts, runs, cuts, takes a bit of abuse ... all thats needed. Just my own experiences, everybody has their own I am sure.

Bought a 2014 one a couple of months ago and so far it has been great. Have it on a 16" bar but have tried a 13" on it and that really flies. Plenty of power and feels well built. I was really tempted by a 550xp but chose the stihl because the local dealer is top notch. I have no regrets whatsoever.

I had a 2012 model , nothing but bother with it from the word go . Thankfully I'd kept my Husky 346 , the 361 spent more time at the dealer than it ever did working .

Replaced it with a Husky 560 and it's been amazing , so much so I bought another .

Ive got a 2011 261 I think and its had a new clutch drum, several needle bearings, that's about it. Its been my main saw. Im not cutting and climbing full time but I do wonder how it would have coped if I were. I got a little concerned so I sourced a 550 after using one on a course and its been a good move. I don't want to sell my 261 but its sitting there in the truck as a back up saw.:001_huh: I hope if you buy new new that you get a good warranty.....

Good luck
