What is success to you?

For me its working less and having more time with my family, i dont live an extravagant lifestyle as i dont feel its important. I bond with my kids rather than try to buy or bargain with them, but im genuinely interested in what other members would class as being successful, i know its a tough time in the industry but the fact you are still trading is testament to your own ability, is that alone success to you?

i aim for contentment now, if i spend loads of time with the family my work suffers so i cant relax at home or on breaks because i worry about paying bills, when i am really busy work life is sweet, if things breakdown the money is there to pay for repairs so no stress, but then i get annoyed if i dont get to see the kids before bed. it is trying to get a balance. 2 weeks ago i was really scunnered with things, i nearly applied for a full time job, but with in the last 2 weeks, work has come in, money is getting made so i am having the weekend off to spend some good quality time with family and dogs. we need money to get by, and profit isnt a swear word. it is trying to find a balance. i made good money today and spent an hour and a half climbing trees with my eldset boy in the park. sweeet:001_cool:i do like to stand in my yard and look at my kit, and see what i have worked so hard for. i like the fact i have property. its my pension or college funds for the boys. but nothing comes close to driving into the driveway at night and seeing those excited faces at the window and the sounds of ' daddys home':001_smile:

being happy, time with kids, enjoyable weekends, enough money in bank to cover emergencies without being lavish. thats my success

( got 2 sons, thats my real success)

and not living my life to other peoples standards and expectations,

get up for work when i want, go home when i want, play when i want

what other reason would be self employed for?????

I am single and without the family considerations that many on here have.

I feel sucessful when we have the equipment on site and are charging through the work, when clients and employees are happy with the enviroment we have created workwise.

When I am standing in the yard on a summers evening looking at the gear and remember when this was just a dream to me.

I am living a dream I have fostered for over a decade, luck, hard graft and going without has gotten me here.

Success for me is studying in college for two years whilst holding down two jobs and brininging my daughter up..and getting the job i trained for despite the reccession.

And over coming a great many fears in the last 30 years.
