Still not sure if it was dawn redwood or swamp cypress but managed to get the bark off with the help of a power washer and milled an old oak sleeper for table top and benches. Not sure what to use the other lump for. Any suggestions welcomed!

rob, it's definitely dawn redwood, I've removed about 10 of these trees over the years of varying size, they have a very distinct shape (fluted/inverted/folding in on itself) near the base like the ones you have

It looks nice timber whatever it is! not something you come accross very often.

We have found them are easy to grow from seed and they grow fast as well(Dawn Redwood)
