Petzl Croll

Recommended Posts

Had my first play with a Croll this week, on Rich Rules kit.

Is hand ascender/Croll/ Pantin considered safe enough?

I used a foot loop with the hand ascender btw. Or maybe attached to the Croll. I don't know, I just wanted to get up the tree.

I went back and tried SRT with croll, pantin and hand ascender and found it hard to trust the system as Ive got so used to a captive 'hitch' system (and rope wrench). There are so many other options out there now that enable quick descent in an emergency from the access line that it seems contrary to me to use croll/pantin/hand ascender anymore. its a free world and all that but especially as Petzl themselves recommend backing up the croll with another device there are safer methods for tree work in my opinion.

This is my setup mark. Used to use it all the time to go up on then change over to a separate climbing line. Perfectly safe in my opinion just as long as you use it with the correct ropes such as kernmaster or platinum. But since I recently got a unicender I've just been using that mainly, it's a lot smoother and you can descendImageUploadedByArbtalk1396139280.719437.jpg.b0f3be841535be4db1fdf176b28bf99b.jpg if need be

marcus, ascenders subjected to a fall actually perform better on a 16s 13mm rope, and perform worst on a DB rope

The RW, uni or HH all allow descent and perform well in a fall on a wide variety of ropes the RR also but as theres only a few in the uk, prob' not so relevent.

if guys insist on using only toothed ascenders id advise a backup hitch above the highest ascender

I thought kernmaster was designed to work with ascenders and platinum should be a good rope because the core is woven into the cover.
