Arborist or Forester ... ?

I have yet to see a climber "dash" about. Maybe a slow swing to get into a position, but no dash.

Ground work is easily the hardest part, no matter what the job. Rushing around to keep the climber happy. Then dragging crap all day, and not to mention the chipping, raking and cleaning up the mess.

Of course finding a climber who actually helps out when he comes down is a bit like hens teeth.

In my experiences climbers are just arrogant. They generally have no idea of what is going on below. And either don't care or are too busy enjoying to view.

Of course there is always that rare moment when a climber worth his weight comes along..... At some point.

Sounds like you're no climber. There can be times as a climber when you're waiting a little while for brash to be moved on a fell. Try full days on reductions/big trees: you'll know you've done that.

When I get down it's then helping out dragging and carrying out timber. After thirty five years in trees dragging and climbing I'd say that climbing wears your body out more than anything.

If you put 5 l of fuel a day through saws in a wood or spend the day running about with winch cable and chokers on a thinning job its hard work , if you have a defective 120ft poplar to dismantle or a 150 year old oak to reduce over hazards it's also taxing ... Cutting a few bits off garden pecker poles is a breeze and I would like to add any climber who does not make the people's life's on the ground easier or help when they are done needs sacking... On a whole I enjoy woodland work but it gets boring and repetitive after a week for me and I start to look forward to the easyness of Most day to day Arb instead.
