Hi All

I'm after some help if possible. A guy who works for me wants to do his chainsaw ticket. I've found him a local place to do CS30. He has come back and said he can do a cheaper course through a friend who does training but that the course he is looking at is run/certified by NPORS

(National Plant Operator Registration Scheme).

My question is, what is the difference between these courses and is there any reason that the npors course is not suitable for arb?

I've yet to contact my insurance co for their view but will be doing.

Any views or advice appreciated

Cheers

The CS30/31 is the recognised one it's supported by City and Guilds. It's gotta be best for both of you.

you get fully qualified staff

He gets a universally recognised ticket.

the woodland people up here in cumbria are doing some great discounts on the courses worth a look

I would not accept it.

However it should be to the same standard

I believe it is more aimed at use on building sites

I would certainly ask for course content and course duration

hi just done a cs32 (large tree) ticket today that was a NPTC (city & guilds) top ticket and the only ones to have, for future ref if your guy leaves and goes in to forestry work the only tickets the fc and some other forestry co accept are NPTC They wont accept lantra or your NPROS so he would have to do it again, and if he does cs30/31 together it will be cheaper than doing them seperatly ,just got 1 of my lads through his cs30/31 for £425 as our next job is on a fc site, hope this of help to you.

Thanks for the feedback. I agree and would prefer he had cs30. I suppose I'm questioning how different the two courses can be, if they both cover safe use of saw then why is one the preferred ticket for arb? I think my argument will be ( seeng as he's not full time with me) that he will be more employable with other firms if he goes with cs ticket. Still waiting on rely from insurance co..

cheaper isnt always best.

perhaps its worth approaching from another tack ask the insurers what they are prepared recognise,

Hse do recognise the suite of Chainsaw training National awards via Nptc city & Guilds & Lantra awards

this old "yes it is, no it isnt saga", H&S recognise any training carried out by a competent instructor, and recorded as such, another mob jumping on the "lets make money out the suckers" brigade

Hi the NPROS and Lantra tickets are not reconissed by some of the bigger forestry co and the forestry commision will only accept NPTC CITY AND GUILDS and get him to do cs30/31 together as it works out cheaper, just put 2 of my ladds through cs30/31 for £425 each.
